In the spring of 1928 it was apparent that dad would not be able to do any farm work as he was sick in bed with rheumatic fever agravated by the poisonous gas contracted in World War I at the Argonne-Meusse battles. The auction was set for March 16th. It was a bitterly cold day. Among the many farmers in attendance was Albert Tollefson and his small son, Maurice. When Maurice complained of cold feet his father made his way to the kitchen door and was invited in with the lad. Here he could get the lad’s feet warmed near the stove. And so the story in later years was that the romance between Maurice and Inez had its beginning on that cold auction day in 1928. And Maurice was plagued with cold feet all his life!
