Move Into Town

MOVE INTO TOWN OF SACRED HEART AFTER THE FARM AUCTION

With my father sick in bed the move into Sacred Heart had to be most difficult for Mom and her two very young daughters. Dad’s aunt, Hannah Engstrom gave up her upstairs rooms so our family could move in temporarily as Dad was on his death bed. All I remember in furniture in those three rooms plus a small hallway was two beds, a crib and in the small room to the front a cupboard, table and chairs. I can recall people coming in briefly to the bedroom where my Dad laid-most likely to say their farewell to my Dad. Pastor Giere sat at the bedside. A letter came from Norway from Dad’s mother pleading Dad to get well as he had a family to care for. Pastor Giere wanted to read the letter to my Dad but Dad refused saying he could not stand to listen. Death came on April 15th that year of 1928.
