Dorothy and I had arranged by phone to meet Sigurd Tvedt and his wife at a restaurant near his home while they were vacationing in Florida. Sig was a friend from China days and I had not seen him for some 20 years. We arrived at the restaurant about 10 minutes late, and didn’t see Sigurd. After waiting a while, we called his home, and were surprised when he said “Oh, we’ve already talked with you and you drove on further south”.
My question was “Who did you talk to?” He replied “There was a car with a Michigan license plate and the people looked like you might have looked, so we said ‘Hello'”. His response was “It’s really nice to see you, but we have an appointment down the line and have to get going”. Tvedt asked the couple if they were coming to the house as we had arranged by phone, and he said they replied “No, we have to be on our way”. Tvedt said “We drove home and assumed you didn’t want to see us very badly.”
It didn’t take long before Sigurd and his wife appeared at the restaurant and we continued to their home for a pleasant visit as was the original intention.
