Teaching

My public school teaching experience was after we moved from Dearborn to Southfield.  I was a substitute teacher for second grade.  I was on playground duty before class so I could not prepare.  Once in the classroom, one of the girls was sick and I had to rush her down to the office.   When I got back to the classroom it was a shambles.  Finally, the principal came in and gave a hand.

I took over the choirs at the high school to finish up a semester one year.  That was a good experience for me.  However, I recall that one day one of the boys came up after choir one time and asked about our neighbors who were known to be gay – and questions about himself.  I referred him to his parents and counselor…
