Philosophy
Our photo archive is ragged in appearance, clumsy to browse and requires some technical patience to maintain. But our very basic approach is fast, so that we’ve been able to make our lifetime collection of approximately 10,000 images available, most with annotation and all with date information. We think the challenge with photo archives is the sheer number of images that need attention, so our priority has been to minimize the “time per photo”. But it still takes a lot of time, and to protect our investment we’ve minimized our dependence on proprietary archives/albums where a product decision we don’t control can make all our work obsolete in an instant (e.g., Picasa).
Our principles:
- published and archive versions of photos are identical
- minimize time to select and annotate photos
- no proprietary formats or storage
- formats can be automatically converted as new formats emerge
Read on, and you, too, can have a ragged, clumsy online photo archive … with all your pictures available to share.
