Dear Art,
Thanks for sending your Christmas Letter. We always enjoy reading it and getting caught up on some of the things that are happening in your family. Ellen and I think of you and your family more often then you probably realize.
I want to take a moment to thank you for the influence that you had on my career…and, in turn, on my life in general. Your help in arranging an interview in Ford’s data processing organization
(1963) along with the personal recommendation that went with it was so influential in the course of my career. I’m retired now, but what an experience! Starting with punched cards on
1401’s…to being responsible for Ford’s Employee Stock Savings Plan after only 2 years on the job. Then, on to different industries, different cities. Technologies like UNIX, C, C++, Java,
HTPL….the list goes on. It was never boring and the constant change was exciting. My last 23 years was at a company called LexisNexis – a data warehouse/electronic search company serving attorneys, news agencies and government security. Pretty interesting place to work.
Again, thanks so much!
A quick word about our family. Our 3 kids are all grown up now. Our oldest son. Rich, lives in the Boston area and is Chief Investment Officer for Wellesley Bank. He and his wife have 3 kids
between the ages of 10 and 13. Our daughter, Laura, and her family lives in Portland, Oregon. Although she’s a stay-at-home mom now, she worked for 15+ years in the IT business as a Project Manager-then quit and became a professional photographer. Her husband is a Senior VP at Gallagher Insurance in Chicago, so they may be moving back to the Chicago area this year. They have 3 girls, two are 10 and the oldest is 11. And, our youngest son, Brian, lives in the
Atlanta area. He is a Systems Architect for Sun Bank. He married a ‘Southern’ woman from Lynchburg, Virginia. It’s fun hearing a Southern accent in the house when we all get together.
Now that Ellen and I are retired (actually, Ellen was a stay at home Mom), we discovered Puerto Vallarta Mexico. We spent 5 weeks there this winter and came back to snow and cold weather.
Next year, we plan on staying longer, probably until the end of March. It’s nice to have a break from the cold weather. We still live in Dayton Ohio – about 30 miles from Wittenberg where I
went to college. We’ve been in this general area for about 40 years…wow, that’s a long time.
Art, I hope that all is well with you and your family. I was glad to read in your Christmas Letter that your golf, tennis and swimming activities are good. It sounds like Boutwells Landing
Community is a nice place to live….although 1 bet it’s pretty cold during the winter. Thanks again. Art, for the influence that you had on my life. It’s a very special memory for me.
Yours Truly,
Dick Sipley
